S-BOX Benefits:
For Elecraft KX2 Owners
- Works like a “Docking Station” – see example
- Replaces Elecraft KX2ACBL and KXUSB cable. Converts a standard serial cable plus a common RCA-to-3.5mm TRRS cable such as this one into a KX2 computer control cable and KEY OUT cable
ACC: Tip=TXD, Ring1=RXD, Ring2=KEY OUT, Shell=Ground
- Keys computer-generated CW on the DTR pin of the serial cable through a common RCA-to-3.5mm stereo patch cable such as this one
KEY: Tip=CW, Ring=n.c., Shell=Ground
- Keys external Elecraft KPA500 amplifier with automatic band switching.
- Keys external ACOM or SPE amplifier relay via a single 15-pin cable that connects S-BOX to amplifier (RXD, GND, Relay). Band switching is automatic.
For Elecraft KX3 Owners
- Works like a “Docking Station” – see example
- Replaces Elecraft KXSER and KXUSB cables. Converts any standard serial cable plus a common RCA-to-3.5mm stereo patch cable such as this one into a KX3 computer control cable
ACC1: Tip=TXD, Ring=RXD, Shell=Ground
- Keys computer-generated CW on the DTR pin of the serial cable through a second RCA-to-3.5mm stereo patch cable
KEY: Tip=CW, Ring=n.c., Shell=Ground
- Keys external Elecraft KPA500 amplifier with automatic band switching.
- Keys external ACOM or SPE amplifier relay via a common RCA-to-2.5mm stereo patch cable such as this one
ACC2: Ring=KEY OUT, Shell=Ground.
- A single 15-pin cable connects S-BOX to the ACOM or SPE amplifier (RXD, GND, Relay). Band switching is automatic.
For Elecraft K3/K3S/P3 Owners
- S-BOX-USB Replaces KXUSB cable
- Provides direct interface to ACOM or SPE Amplifiers 15-pin D-SUB connectors for automatic band switching
- Provides FSK / PTT keying interface via independent serial port for MMTTY. See example.
- Works great with Elecraft K3+KIO3B or K3S plus P3 with or without the CBLP3Y USB interface. Just connect the CBLP3Y DE-9M or serial cable to the S-BOX input, and use a short M/F serial cable to connect the S-BOX output to the P3's PC-RS232 connector. See example.
- Supports K3 remote power ON feature via user-selected serial port pin, e.g., pulse the RTS pin on an S-BOX serial port “high” using the RemoteHams RCForb software to remotely POWER ON the K3. A keying circuit output grounds ACC Pin 8 when RTS goes high. See example.
For Elecraft KPA500 Owners
- Provides “listen only” serial interface to automatically track band changes on Kenwood or Elecraft transceivers such as the KX2 and KX3. Connect the KPA500 XCVR port to the secondary port on the S-BOX with a serial cable, and set RADIO to SERIAL in the KPA500 menu. See example.
- Supports KPA500 remote power ON/OFF feature via user-selected serial port pin, e.g., toggle the RTS pin on an S-BOX serial port to remotely power the KPA500 ON or OFF. The S-BOX keying circuit output grounds KPA500 AUX port pin 8 (PWR ON/OFF) when the RTS line goes high.
For Elecraft KPA1500 Owners
- Replaces serial Cross-Over cable for KX2 and KX3 using a pair of common RCA-to-3.5mm stereo patch cables such as this one.
- Provides “listen only” serial interface to automatically track frequency changes on the Elecraft KX2, KX3, FlexRadio, and many Kenwood and Yaesu transceivers. Connect the 3.5mm KPA1500 XCVR SERIAL connector to the RCA connectors on the S-BOX labeled TXD and RXD using the patch cable. Set RADIO TYPE to SERIAL in the KPA1500 menu and set SERIAL SPEED XCVR to match the baud rate of the transceiver's serial port. See example.
- Supports KPA1500 independent remote power ON/OFF feature via user-selected serial port pin, e.g., toggle the RTS pin on an S-BOX serial port to remotely power the KPA1500 ON or OFF. The S-BOX keying circuit output grounds KPA1500 AUX port pin 8 (PWR ON/OFF) when the RTS line goes high.
For ACOM 2000A (with new RCU), A1200S, or 600S Amplifier Owners
- Replaces custom serial Y-cables with 100% shielded Amphenol® cables with molded connectors.
- Implements almost all of the transceiver interface circuits described in the ACOM amplifier manuals. See Elecraft/Kenwood/Yaesu example and Icom example.
- Provides “listen only” serial interface to automatically track frequency changes on all supported transceivers with a serial port (Elecraft, Kenwood, Yaesu).
- Provides internal CI-V conversion circuit to connect any Icom REMOTE (CI-V) connector to the proper pins on the ACOM amplifier's 15-pin CAT port with standard patch cables.
- Maps the 15-pin “CAT” port on the ACOM amplifier to the appropriate transceiver lines.
- Allows a single 15-pin cable to carry all control signals from the transceiver to the amplifier, including serial data, CI-V, KEY IN, KEY OUT, ALC, ON RMT, etc.
For SPE EXPERT 1K-FA, 1.3K-FA, 1.5K-FA, and 2K-FA Amplifier Owners
- Replaces custom Y-cables using plastic shells with 100% shielded Amphenol® cables with molded connectors.
- Provides “listen only” serial interface to automatically track frequency changes on all supported transceivers with a serial port (Elecraft, Icom, Kenwood, Yaesu), including automatic power on. See Elecraft K3S/P3 example and Yaesu FTdx5000 example using a microHAM microKEYER II.
- Maps the DA-15 “CAT” port on the SPE amplifier to the appropriate transceiver lines.
- Implements almost all of the transceiver interface connections described in the SPE manuals.
For SteppIR SDA 100 and SDA 2000 Controller Owners
- Replaces home-brew serial Y-cables with 100% shielded Amphenol® cables with molded connectors.
- Provides “listen only” serial interface to automatically track frequency changes on all supported transceivers with a serial port (Elecraft, Icom, Kenwood, Yaesu)
- Supports the SteppIR Tuning Relay Interrupt option to protect your antenna from being damaged by high power during tuning. See example.
Benefits for All
- No device drivers (except S-BOX-USB), no firmware, no power supply needed (it's a passive interface)
- Compatible with all devices with a serial port or 15-pin D-SUB connector
- 100% shielding with a steel case and fully shielded Amphenol® cables with molded connectors, no plastic clamshell connectors
- Replaces home-brew and custom splitter cables
- Easy reconfiguration if your station hardware changes, just move the internal jumper wires; no need to buy more custom amplifier interface cables or resolder any connectors
- Works with SteppIR controllers so the antenna can automatically track the transceiver
- Four standard open collector keying circuits provide FSK and CW keying plus PTT to any transceiver. See SO2R CW example and SO2R RTTY example
- Four RCA connectors can be custom wired and labeled for any purpose (CW OUT, PTT OUT, FSK OUT, PWR ON, 12V IN, 12V OUT) etc.
- The single serial port used for rig control may also be used to provide CW and PTT on the DTR and RTS lines, just like he newest transceivers that have this feature built in
- Remotely power up any supported transceiver or amplifier simply by toggling one of the keying circuits to ground (Elecraft K3/K3S, KPA500, KPA1500)
